9/12/2023 0 Comments E ink magic mirror raspberry pi![]() ![]() ![]() We’re using the official 7-inch touchscreen for this project to make power requirements easier we only need one cable to drive both Raspberry Pi and the display. Remove the protective sheeting and place in the frame, making sure it covers the open area. This material is cheapest when bought by the roll, so it’s ideal for custom-build or larger mirror projects. It’s only semi-reflective, so the output from your screen can be seen ‘through’ the glass but it’s still effective as a mirror (if a little darker than a regular mirror). ![]() This material is the same that is used in police interview rooms and as privacy screening. The big ‘trick’ of a magic mirror is the use of two-way material, also known as ‘observation glass’. This is statically charged and will start to attract dust, so lots of cleaning is required. You’ll need to carefully peel back the two protective layers and then replace the clear sheet in the frame. Unpack the frame, remove the mount, and then remove the plastic clear sheet. It’s vital that all these are kept as clean as possible during assembly as any dust will get trapped and leave an irritating mark on your lovely mirror. To create our magic mirror, we will create a ‘sandwich’ of the frame, a piece of observation mirror acrylic, and the screen. This can be built in an afternoon and is a great way to find out whether you want to take it to the next step and get working on something a bit bigger. In this tutorial, we’ll assemble a simple magic mirror using off-the-shelf parts. Although the results are undoubtedly impressive, it can make the hobby look a little daunting to the beginner, especially if you don’t have access to the necessary equipment to build a custom frame. There have been some impressive magic mirror projects as makers around the globe challenge each other to improve on previous designs. Would you like a magic mirror, but don’t fancy all that carpentry? Here’s a first project to ease you in without having to reach for the band-sawĪ Raspberry Pi Zero would seem ideal for this project, but MagicMirror2 is incompatible with that model and the original Raspberry Pi 1. It’s no wonder it won the number one slot in our best projects feature for The MagPi issue 50. Best of all, you can expand the capabilities of your mirror through the hundreds of community plug-ins available and, if you wish, you can write your own. This modular system takes away all the programming and design pain. Fortunately, the team at MagicMirror2, headed by Michael Teeuw (see The MagPi issue 54), have not only compiled tutorials and fostered a great community, they’ve also built their own open-source application. Let’s take a look at one of these makers and then have a go at building our own mirror.Ĭreating a good magic mirror requires experience in many disciplines including carpentry, electronics, programming, and graphic design. Although they come across as advanced builds, the community behind the projects have made significant advances in making magic mirrors accessible to all. ![]() The information displayed is typically what you need as you’re preparing to leave the house: weather, news headlines, and transit information. Initially created by combining old laptops and semi-reflective observation glass, they appear as normal mirrors but with text and images that appear to float in mid-air. Magic mirrors have to be one of the most popular projects out there. ![]()

By charting a new course for our industry, we can unleash our creativity - transforming not just what we make, but how we make it.”Įric Liedtke adidas Group Executive Board Member Responsible For Global BrandsĬarbon’s rapid product development process enabled adidas to iterate over 50 different lattices for the midsole before landing on the current design. One driven by athlete data and agile manufacturing processes. “With Digital Light Synthesis, we venture beyond limitations of the past, unlocking a new era in design and manufacturing. A trailblazing partnership had been forged. To overcome this constraint and 3D print final midsoles, adidas turned to the Carbon DLS process, its factory-ready 3D printing method, and its high-performance materials to design and directly produce the next generation of athletic footwear. As a result, while adidas could 3D print prototypes of their midsoles, the final midsole design was still constrained by the ultimate production process, i.e. For adidas, the 3D printing industry lacked the production-grade elastomers needed for a demanding athletic footwear application. Prints are often painfully slow, require wasteful part supports that are ultimately thrown in the trash, and use materials that are vastly inferior to those used for production, resulting in weak and brittle parts. 3D printers are generally not designed for manufacturing scale. Confronted with this challenge, the adidas team shifted its focus to the possibility of 3D printing midsoles to unlock the design freedom needed to enhance shoe performance.ģD printing has previously been used mostly to prototype products in development before they were produced with traditional manufacturing techniques. Although they can be assembled from multiple parts through a labor-intensive process, this introduces multiple potential points of failure. Midsoles cannot be injection or compression molded in one piece with properties that vary across the part. But their latest idea-creating shoes with variable properties across the midsole to improve shoe performance for different sports-presented a difficult hurdle. Louis vuitton maison seoul’s windows present a colorful cluster of paper trees, developed in collaboration with frank gehry. ‘I still remember clearly the powerful impressions I had stepping up from the garden of jongmyo shrine.’ ‘what struck me when I first visited seoul nearly 25 years ago, was the relationship between the architecture and the natural landscape,’ gehry explains. the façade culminates in waves of louvered panels, which frank gehry designed to give the impression of flight. The entire front of the structure is clad with glass, beginning with a high zig-zagging vestibule and window, leading up to a series of enclosed terraces. as well as the different ‘retail universes’ designed by peter marino, the building also includes a space on the upper level that currently hosts an exclusive collection of giacometti sculptures. located in the city’s gangnam district, the building is the architect’s first creation in south korea and shares many similarities with the fondation louis vuitton in paris - also designed by gehry. With the House of Dior building, his two great passions, for haute couture and architecture, come together in a unique creation. On the site of a previously existing louis vuitton store in seoul, frank gehry has designed a new ‘maison’ for the fashion house that celebrates its strong relationship with korean culture. This sculptural suppleness was my starting point.” The House archives also inspired the building’s final form: the movement of those immense architectural sails is strongly reminiscent of the dresses Cyclone and Cocotte, designed by Christian Dior in 1948. It has a sense of movement that plays with light. “ This white softness is like the couturier’s toile when he’s at work. “ I thought about the movement of the fabrics, the weaving effect s, and I created a facade that would explore these elements,” the architect explains. This was not an innocent, scientifically naive, primitive effort to reach the highest heavens! It was, instead, a brilliant but blasphemous effort to dismiss forever the God who had commanded Noah and his three sons after the Flood to “ be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth” ( Genesis 9:1). 1 The pyramids of Egypt and, much later, the great Mayan temples of Central America, reflected the design of the original Tower of Babel. In the centre of the room would be their “god” seated upon a throne! Nebuchadnezzar later rebuilt such a tower in Babylon, which the Sumerians had called E-TEMEN-AN-KI (‘the building of the foundation-platform of heaven and earth’). The inner walls, in all probability, were decorated with blue glazed tile, with the sun, the moon, and the five known planets (Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn) lined up along the plane of the zodiac. And this is exactly what ancient Mesopotamian ziggurat temple-towers were for! The top compartment represented heaven. (The KJV italicizes “may reach”.)īut what happens when the Hebrew wording is translated literally? We then have “ a tower whose top into heaven.” (cf. First, were these Mesopotamians who descended from Noah’s family actually attempting to build “ a tower whose top reach into heaven” ( Genesis 11:4)? The clear answer is “No!” The NASB puts the words “will reach” in italics, which means that they are not in the original Hebrew text, but were added in an effort to make sense out of the wording. Let us now consider these three statements in order. “ In days the earth was divided” ( Genesis 10:25).And this is what they began to do, and now nothing which they purpose to do will be impossible for them” ( Genesis 11:6). “ Behold, they are all one people, and they all have the same language.“ Come, let us build for ourselves … a tower whose top will reach into heaven” ( Genesis 11:4).Mankind has never recovered.īut what really happened, and why? For centuries, Bible students have wondered about the following three statements: Overwhelmed by fear and frustration, each family group moved away from the others. Thousands of workers suddenly found themselves incapable of communicating with anyone outside their extended family group. ![]() 9/11/2023 0 Comments Bad coolant cap symptoms![]() ![]() A coolant recovery reservoir is required because automotive cooling systems go through cycles of expelling and absorbing coolant through their normal operation. It is usually located in the engine bay near the radiator. So you've been running a 200 kpa cap for at least 3 years now it seems without issue? No issues or other leaks since? I can't find any mentions online of anybody running a 200 kpa cap on the X5, just some other older BMW sedans when guys track the cars etc.The coolant recovery reservoir is the storage and supply reservoir for engine coolant. Given that the car has gone this whole time without issue on the factory 140 kpa/20 psi cap, doing a 200 kpa/29 psi cap feels a little band-aid-ish but then again if passes the chemical block test at this point I'm not real sure what else I could try. I did order a 200 kpa one from Amazon to have on hand this weekend - looks like the same one you ended up linking. If it passes the chemical test then I'll do the coolant cap. Again, my next thing I'm going to do is a combustion leak detector (chemical block test) - if that fails then the cap is moot because I've got a bad head gasket, cracked head, or block. Again, I have dye in the system now anyway and the only place I can find any trace of coolant is spit out from the top, presumably due to the pressure raising higher than the cap is rated for.Īhh okay that makes sense. The new tank and cap are both from FCP Euro, and assumed fairly high quality so I doubt the new tank is leaking. What hose do you mean exactly as far as the "top left corner"? Is that the thinner hose running from the radiator to the coolant tank? Maybe your coolant hose on the top left corner is the real culprit? Like I said if your coolant tank was from a local auto parts store - it probably leaks at the top and bottom. I did find a 200 KPA for the e60 m5 however.Īlso not expensive worth a shot. I thought I replaced it since - but the one on the car still says 200 KPA.Īmazon has a 200 kpa for like $12 - give it a shot.Ģ00 KPA Radiator Coolant Expansion Overflow Tank Cap Cover Compatible with BMW E90 E60 F10 F7639021 (200bar) įCP euro only shows me 140 KPA caps for my 35i. ![]() I drove home with it pieced back together and threw on the cap from the toolbox. One fine morning I found myself low on coolant away from the house a few miles - I went to put coolant I had in the trunk into the reservoir and i dropped it - snapping the inner ring off the outer portion. It didn’t work at the time but I never threw it out or returned it. Interesting- honestly I had an extra cap in my tool box from years prior when I purchased one online for my old E46 or maybe my E60. To clarify, your X5 is the straight 6 turbo 3 liter correct? If so, why does yours have a 29 psi cap? As far as I can tell, the standard one of 140 kpa/20 psi? However, I notice your cap shows to be 200 kpa (which is 29 psi). Unfortunately the original cap got tossed so I can't just stick it back on but I'm nearly certain it too showed 140 kpa. So, pretty clearly the cap is spitting a bunch of coolant out because it's obviously routinely getting above ~20 psi. Watching it with the coolant pressure tester it readily gets above 20 psi on the gauge warmed up at idle, and the cap I bought from FCP Euro lists 140 kpa on it which translates to about 20 psi. so I don't THINK the head gasket is bad but next weekend I will be doing a chemical test on it too. Not getting any increased pressure when revving the engine, even in gear under load either. ![]() Can't find any trace of coolant in the oil and it's gone through easily 5-6 gallons in the past month. I've bled it a bunch of times, and this past weekend went to town on it with a coolant pressure tester and can't find any trace of a leak. I've put dye in the coolant and can't ever find any trace of anything ANYWHERE except a bit on top of the coolant tank. Since then, it still intermittently eats coolant. The tank itself was definitely originally leaking and I'd find puddles below it. The tank was leaking originally and I just went ahead and got a new cap with it. I've actually already replaced the coolant reservoir AND cap both new from FCP Euro. Good news the electric water pump bleed is easy as pie and coolant is readily available in stores and online. If the cap doesn’t work for you - the reservoir is easy to do but you will pretty much evacuate the entire coolant system. Definitely but Mahle or equivalent from FCP EURO or others. On a further note - don’t buy the reservoir from autozone - it will leak with the quick lock coolant connectors. Since then I’ve replaced the reservoir during OFHG as a preventative maintenance. ![]() |
